    I know I shouldn't, but I will: Yoshitaka Amano, 1001 Nights Pt 1/3
Because, when the assignments are stacking up and you're panicking about the unproductivity of your project groupmates, the only way out is Youtube:

I never thought Amano's artwork could be animated. It's just so... whispery, and it doesn't look like it'd survive the cel-shading(?) used in anime (ever notice how the softness in shoujo manga hairstyles usually become more bouncy and "full" in the anime versions? I dunno what makes it that way, but that's what I'm talking about).

Well, now you can slap me over and call me wrong, 'cause this is just goshdarned beautiful.

    Because she can
And now for something a little different.

It's important to understand why, then, Mrs. Palin has hit a nerve. It's not because she's a woman with children trying to do a man's job. It's because she's actually pushing the combination of professional and personal ambitions beyond the sensibilities of this generation of working moms. As women, we may be awed by her, but she's not necessarily a role model for so many professional women who now say they want to do it differently, that they don't want to do 150% of everything all of the time.

Because there are a few people out there scratching their heads over Sarah. ;)

    But they'll come around! :D

Peter Hirshberg: The Web and TV, a sibling rivalry

The Internet would change everything: it's a truism now, but for some, this took years to sink in. Not for Peter Hirshberg. A marketing specialist at the epicenter of emerging technology, he has spent a quarter of a century charting the reverberations of all things high tech in culture and in business. (It's big business, too.)

Hirshberg first helped bring Apple into the online services arena., then acted as strategic adviser to Microsoft, AOL and NBC. Along the way, he was CEO of Gloss.com and Elemental Software. He's built a deep understanding of the fundamentals of content production and consumption -- and how they've changed, both online and off.

Hirshberg is a trustee of the Computer History Museum and a Henry Crown Fellow of the Aspen Institute. He serves on the advisory board of Technorati and keeps up a lively blog on disruptive culture.

Fic: Golden Eyes and French Fries. Bart/Tim. PG.
Title: Golden Eyes and French Fries
    Fandom: Young Justice
    Characters: Bart/Tim
    Prompt: 13. Yellow
    Word Count: 1070
    Rating: PG
Summary: Bart wants Tim to eat more and work less. Protein shakes don't count.
Author's Notes: Mostly when I write a story, I agonize over what to call it. Once, when discussing a different story with my beta, the lovely [info]julius12, she came up with the idea "Golden Eyes and French Fries." I loved the idea, but it didn't fit the story I'd written. Still, I really wanted to write that story. Now, I finally did! Happy birthday, [info]pikakao!

One is a well turned-out, good-looking, pretty sexy piece of eye-candy. The other kills her own food
"What's the difference between Sarah Palin and Barack Obama?"

"One is a well turned-out, good-looking, and let's be honest, pretty sexy piece of eye-candy. The other kills her own food."

Excerpt: It never ceases to amaze me how the Left falls again and again into the old trap of underestimating politicians whom they don't understand. From Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher to George Bush and Mrs Palin, they do it every time. Because these characters talk a bit funny and have ridiculously antiquated views about faith, family and nation, because they haven't spent time bending the knee to the intellectual metropolitan elites, they can't be taken seriously...

The following article irked me to no end.

    Free Bristol Palin

    My little rant time...
Brisol Palin is five months pregnant. That's WAY before her mother was nominated to the ticket. Before she was probably ever considered for that spot. If she wanted to have an abortion bad enough, if could have been done without it being in the media spotlight, and without the President calling and yelling at her. No one knew who she was five months ago. If her mother wouldn't have been nominated, NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE EVER HAPPENED. People are forced to do things everyday they don't want to do, and it doesn't make this big of news. If this would have happened last year, yeah, no. No one would have cared.

Leave the poor girl alone. Let her have her baby and marry Levi. It's really none of anyone's business but theirs. IDK why they can't just leave the families alone. Honestly. Let's find something Obama's girls did wrong and harp on them for weeks about it. Srsly. She's HUMAN. Mistakes happen.

Will the Sarah-cuda appear on Oprah?
    http://michellemalkin.com/2008/09/05/oprah-vs-sarah-cuda/

Good question. I almost feel sorry for Oprah, almost. Shifty eyes. You'd think, as a woman that wasn't born with a silver spoon in her mouth, she'd jump to put Sarah on. Hmmm....

    Online friends.
Are we deluding ourselves? Are they akin to imaginary friends? I think not.

It blows my mind that this erroneous idea about the limitation of internet relationships to transcend pixel somehow continues to survive in the face of ever-mounting evidence to the contrary.

We’re part of a mobile generation—not just in the sense of technology, though that certainly has facilitated matters. I grew up on a little island in the Pacific where it was common for people to come and go. As I got older, I began to come and go myself. Even now that I’m married and settled, my husband and I continue to buzz around the world. We can’t sit still and we’re not the only ones. Where time and geography previously stood in the way, now technology allows us not only to make connections, but foster and enrich them.

I think one of the biggest issues with cruelty on the internet today has to do with this misconception that the people with whom we interact online aren’t really people. The truth of the matter is that some of the deepest, most honest, most meaningful connections I have with people have developed on the internet—both with those I originally met online and those I initially knew offline. ...

What a difference a decade makes. His paper on the psychology of the web was published in 1997. The once-solid divide between online life and physical reality has long since been toppled. Nowadays, we largely enjoy both. Though there are exceptions, I wouldn’t spend much energy interacting and getting to know people I wouldn’t want to meet offline and most people I know, whether they use social networks for business or pleasure, want to meet the people with whom they interact and make every effort to do so.
    (Via the lady herself.)

Comments are screened, because I would like honest opinions/stories on the topic. Do you consider your online friends to be true friends? Moreso than real friends? Less so, but still important? Not at all? Would you ever meet an online friend? Under what circumstances (after how long, after meeting on what webpages [e.g., would MySpace be a good place to establish bona fides], would you need to e-mail them first, would you need to ascertain similar interests, what would you need to see to be convinced)? Do you deliberately seek to do so? To all of these questions: why?

    Just for the record
You know, I am getting tired of people from urban cities being cast as less American than people from frigging small towns. See also Christians, evangelical Christians, mind you. And educated people, WAY more American than less educated. Of course POC are unpatriotic until proven otherwise. Sick of it.

0% on home sales up to $500,000 per home (couples). McCain does not propose any change in existing home sales income tax.

    OBAMA
28% on profit from ALL home sales. (How does this affect you? If you sell your home and make a profit, you will pay 28% of your gain on taxes. If you are heading toward retirement and would like to down-size your home or move into a retirement community, 28% of the money you make from your home will go to taxes. This proposal will adversely affect the elderly who are counting on the income from their homes as part of their retirement income.)

    DIVIDEND TAX

    MCCAIN
    15% (no change)

    OBAMA
39.6% - (How will this affect you? If you have any money invested in stock market, IRA, mutual funds, college funds, life insurance, retirement accounts, or anything that pays or reinvests dividends, you will now be paying nearly 40% of the money earned on taxes if Obama becomes president. The experts predict that 'Higher tax rates on dividends and capital gains would crash the stock market, yet do absolutely nothing to cut the deficit.')

    INHERITANCE TAX

    MCCAIN
    - 0% (No change, Bush repealed this tax)

    OBAMA
    Restore the inheritance tax

Many families have lost businesses, farms, ranches, and homes that have been in their families for generations because they could not afford the inheritance tax. Those willing their assets to loved ones will only lose them to these taxes.

    NEW TAXES PROPOSED BY OBAMA

New government taxes proposed on homes that are more than 2400 square feet. New gasoline taxes (as if gas weren't high enough already) New taxes on natural resources consumption (heating gas, water, electricity) New taxes on retirement accounts, and last but not least....New taxes to pay for socialized medicine so we can receive the same level of medical care as other third-world countries!!!
