And another thing! (last post on flouncing a comm...for now)
This didn't occur to me until another comment sparked it in my head. Members typically aren't invited to a comm. They aren't lured in with promises of exactly what they want. No, they read the profile, decide they wanna be part of that, and join to see if they can contribute, lurk or encourage.

The comm does not exist to serve the whims of a few. If the majority of members decide to go in another direction, sure you can complain, preferably in your own LJ, but flouncing out (an excellent and apt description, I gotta say) of a comm because it doesn't cater to what you want is childish. No one forces anyone to join a comm.

What really annoys me (yeah, beyond everything else) are the suggestions of making more comms for niche parts of fandom, like dark, romantic, etc. The mod is under no requirement to split up a group she made. A member wants more comms? Great, they can make one themselves and see if anyone shows up. That's the risk of making a comm.

I would suggest then calling over all friends and fanpoodles to coo and preen. Egos are smoothed and the previous comm benefits from migration of a small amount of fandom to their new elite, clearly better comm.

(Islamabad) Senate condemns blasphemous cartoons, anti-Islam film
ISLAMABAD, April 25: The Senate on Friday unanimously adopted a resolution condemning the publication of blasphemous cartoons in some European countries and the release of an anti-Islam documentary by a Dutch parliamentarian. It urged the United Nations to put an end to activities against Islam and ensure respect for all religions.

The resolution said that the sacrilegious acts had hurt the sentiments of Muslims and violated international laws, including the UN Charter, and also laws of the countries where the sacrilege had been committed.

The resolution said such sacrilegious acts had harmed the efforts of the Dutch and Danish governments to build bridges between religions and civilisations.

The resolution urged the UN to take “all necessary legal, political and administrative steps to curb this trend”.

Yeah, the sacrilege is too much. Not the bombings or the terrorism or the riots or the condemnation of historic freedoms...just the cartoons.

I'd call them dicks but they clearly don't have any.

Student 'Twitters' his way out of Egyptian jail
Buck, a graduate student from the University of California-Berkeley, was in Mahalla, Egypt, covering an anti-government protest when he and his translator, Mohammed Maree, were arrested April 10. On his way to the police station, Buck took out his cell phone and sent a message to his friends and contacts using the micro-blogging site Twitter.

The message only had one word. "Arrested."

Within seconds, colleagues in the United States and his blogger-friends in Egypt -- the same ones who had taught him the tool only a week earlier -- were alerted that he was being held.

"The most important thing on my mind was to let someone know where we were so that there would be some record of it ... so we couldn't [disappear]," Buck said. "As long as someone knew where we were, I felt like they couldn't do their worst [to us] because someone, at some point, would be checking in on them." Eventually Buck was released, but Maree was transferred to another police station. As he left the station, Buck reached into his pocket, as he did less than 24 hours earlier. Another one-word blog entry said it all: "Free."

As happy as he was to be free, Buck said, his biggest frustration was leaving behind the translator who helped protect him during the riots. "Mohammed was sitting next to me," he said. "But he didn't have the network to call. I tried to use my network to shield him until they tore us apart."

There has been no official confirmation regarding Maree's whereabouts.

Oy, tired. But I has a chocolate shake, so I'm doing good. Driving late at night with techno on the radio and all the lights on the street and signs glowing, very nice.

I hate it when my favorite sites have to move servers. Anonib.com is having to move. I hope they manage to move all their files over. I've been trying to download large art files and it takes awhile. They had a huge bunch.

Had a good talk on the turtlecest chat. Lots of ideas were put forth. What's funny is who did and who didn't show up. The whiners never showed. It was mostly the ones who didn't agree with the flouncing that came on and still brainstormed ideas to take the comm from mostly posting noncon and bondage to other topics. I'm gonna come up with the 100 word fic challenge list 'cause I've already got it started. I was gonna do my own. Now it's gonna be for the comm. :)

I've gotta finish a couple things now. I've had so little time to work on them. I'm really looking forward to summer. Oh, blessed summer...
