    Rogge says Olympics in 'crisis'
The protest-marred Olympic torch relay and international criticism of China's policies on Tibet, Darfur and human rights have turned the Beijing Games into one of the most politically charged in recent history and presented the IOC with one of its toughest tests since the boycott era of the 1970s and '80s.

He cited previous crises — the attack on Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics and the boycotts of the 1976, 1980 and 1984 Games. "The history of the Olympic Games is fraught by a lot of challenges," Rogge said. "This is a challenge but you cannot compare to what we had in the past."

British IOC member Craig Reedie believes the worst is over. "I hope that we are through it now," he said. "I think the furor that has affected the torch in London, Paris and to some extent in San Francisco will now die down. ... But it is fair to say that this kind of political protest is a new experience for the IOC and we have all found it extremely uncomfortable."

While the ideal of politics-free competition is nice, I think it's really naive to say that the Olympics should be performed without any kind of agenda. Aspects of the game have always had ulterior motives to them. Even if its as "benign" as calling the US winning the hockey game against the Soviets a miracle, you can't scrape the politics off the countries competing.

The best outcome would probably be to keep the squabbling limited to snarking words back and forth. Snarking other countries is darn well fine. But honestly? I don't think it's going to be nothing but posturing sarcasm this time around.

Dad told me awhile back that China would implode into chaos right after the games, that they'll hold it together until then. He's typically right about foreign policy, or at least he's more right than wrong.

Gonna be a hell of a ride, these next few years.

    Processing...
There's a Shintaro Kago manga coming up under f-lock soon in case anyone wants to wait up for it. Right now I wanna muse over my soon to be written fics.

After my first Bad Places fic, which is pretty much soaked in blood and gore, I started noticing more fics being written that let Leonardo kill with more blood splashing the pages than I'd seen before in fandom. Whether it's just case of me noticing what was out there more or actually having a small influence in fandom, that's anyone's guess, but I decided to scrap leave one of my fics on the backburner as too similar to Bad Places and what's currently out there.

I wanna try something that really hasn't been explored in fics so far. I have an idea of what I want, but it's gonna take a lot more bouncing around in my head before it's ready. I got to try it a bit in my Usagi/Leo stories, but [info]crabapplered has sparked some interesting ideas in me with her not-yet-produced rant, and I want to give them a try.

I've also been wanting to do a ghost story in the TMNT universe for awhile now, but although I had something of the idea in my head, I couldn't get it going. There's some similar nifty pieces I'd like to keep, but since I'll be looking at several of them in the other story, I'm actually free to create a ghost story that actually scares me.

Yes, I'll be stealing heavily from creepypasta (as I suspect I shall do all the rest of my life), but mainly I want to pull together the best of eastern and western horror. No torture porn, definitely not, but there needs to be blood, hungry ghosts, things lurking in the corner of your eye, and most importantly the thing that isn't seen.

I'm a huge fan of The Haunting, and you never seen anything in that movie. It's all sounds and a couple camera angles. No special effects to speak of, just that thing on the other side of the door. Nothing I write will make the audience shit brix like the audience can imagine behind that door. (Okay, I admit I believe in the ability of the written word to convey absolutely anything, so let's just say that nothing I can write at my current skill level can scare the audience to that level.)

I already have the idea. I don't know I can get it ready by Halloween (although that would be wicked awesome if I could), but now that I know the shape of it, I really want to do it.
