Iran to Punish Apostasy with Death
Apostasy -- or the formal renunciation of religion -- is already punishable in Iran with death. But now, Iran wants to make the death penalty for apostasy part of the penal code. The European Union is concerned and has asked Iran to reconsider.

The European Union this week sent a letter to authorities in Iran expressing its concern over a proposed change to the penal code that would make apostasy punishable by death.

The EU is responding to news that the Islamic Republic is planning to subject "apostasy, heresy and witchcraft" to the Hudud -- the body of fixed punishments assigned to crimes that are considered violations of the "claims of God." Other Hadud crimes include alcohol consumption, theft, highway robbery and illegal sexual intercourse.

They could also be roasted alive. I'm sure sues taste good. And they'd finally have a real use.
I've certainly made my share of original characters, Felix, Chanta, Riana, and a couple disposable villains I think, though I can't remember their names and wow, that's actually not that many. Not bad. But anyway, I've made my share of OCs. They were never romantic interests, they all had their talents and quirks. Knife user who joins a gang for fun 'cause he's not quite ready to go back to the army, half-starved half-face-blasted-away sniper who gets Marilyn Monroe plastic surgery, and an illiterate witch in sneakers from a severely broken home. Not bad, all told.

Sometimes I see threads or comments asking how a writer can tweak a character so they don't have many mary sue traits. These sometimes seem to be more of a means of a writer getting that damn sue out into the world so that all may glory at her wavy hair, l33t skillz and tragic past, or inability to cook, or clumsiness flaw. And it is my honest believe that if you have to ask what you can do to make your original character not a mary sue...it's too late. Put it down out of its misery and start anew. Really anew. Nine times outta ten, you gotta scrap that damn flowery name, too.

Well, no wonder I stopped getting reviews one way or the other about my bdsm essay on the freedom of speech archive. They changed their format and now the featured works are only visible on one of the four available layouts. At least on the others it still has its little blue ribbon icon next to the title.

I don't mind much, though. That thing attracted mean emails, too, things that didn't just tell me why they disagreed but made sure I knew they thought I was an idiot spreading false information and a bastard to boot. But c'mon, I love the torture and rape in ficcage but claiming that's okay in real life? I'm okay being a bastard idiot if that means I don't agree.

This won't make sense but to two people, but I've come to a realization.

Of the friends I chat with, I'm the blunt, occasional caps cruising, trollish absolutely insensitive, arrogant and egotistical bastard. Because they're the most frustratingly diplomatic, overly concerned with what others think, barely any ego to keep their insecurities at bay nice people.

Sometimes I wanna protect them from the world, and sometimes I want to shake them like maracas.
